The Telegraph of Nashua and The Cabinet newspapers of Milford, N.H., have merged news operations, resulting in cuts of eleven full-time and eight part-time positions across both companies.
Telegraph Publisher Terry Williams said Tuesday the cuts were necessary to address the rapidly changing pace of the newspaper industry due to declining advertising revenue and circulation.
The layoffs were also prompted by the abrupt loss this month of The Telegraph’s largest commercial printing customer, BostonNow. The free daily newspaper ceased publishing April 14.
The Telegraph’s parent company, Independent Publications, purchased the Cabinet in April of 2005. Based in Milford, The Cabinet distributes four weekly newspapers.
