With classified advertising revenue for newspapers dwindling because of online competitors, a new Web site hopes to revive a crucial revenue stream for newspapers.
ReinventingClassifieds.com, launched in mid-May, provides tools for and advice about what newspapers can do to fight back against online classified competitors such as Monster.com and Craigslist.org.
The site brings together experts in classifieds, innovation and new-media fields, and provides readers with possible solutions while giving support to publishers hoping to reignite classified systems.
Steve Outing, longtime new-media expert and editor of ReinventingClassifieds.com, commenting on what he hopes the Web site can provide for the newspaper industry, said: "Newspapers may be in a pickle now due to the dramatic loss of classified revenue in recent years, but there's still time to turn things around."
